Complaints & Concerns Procedure - Outcome of complaints

Play Therapy UK (PTUK) has a responsibility to protect the public, and as such gives details of the outcomes of any complaints made against members. All findings are a matter of public record and will be published on the PTUK register if PTUK considers it appropriate and proportionate to do so. On PTUK’s register details of sanctioned registrants will include:

  • The registrant’s details;
  • The outcome of the investigation and details of any sanctions imposed;
  • The reason for the sanctions;
  • Details of suspension of membership;
  • Details of termination of membership;
  • The date the outcome was published.

Publication of Outcomes

PTUK’s complaints procedures aim to be open, transparent and proportionate. Sanctions issued by either the Assessment Panel or the Professional Conduct Panel following a hearing will be published on PTUK’s Register of Play and Creative Arts Therapists Register of Play and Creative Arts Therapists (playtherapyregister.org.uk). A note of the complaint will be added to the registrant’s file.

The publication of such decisions provides information about the standards expected of registrants; assists clients to make informed choices and helps maintain public confidence in the Accredited Register programme.

PTUK aims to strike a balance and consider the rights of both clients and registrants and take account of the risk of any harm that may arise from the disclosure or non-disclosure of information.

Once the sanction has been completed PTUK will annotate the registrant’s Sanctions entry on the PTUK Register website to show ‘Sanction Met’. The registrant’s annotated Sanctions entry will be published on the PTUK register website for a period of 6 months. PTUK believes that the purpose of the sanction is not to punish a health professional and that a registrant with an expired completed sanction has been judged as fit to practice.

Should a sanction not be met PTUK will change the registrant’s Sanctions entry to read ‘Sanction Not Met’ and the Sanction publication will be published on the PTUK register website for a period of five years.

Should a registrant be removed or accept Voluntary Removal following a Panel hearing the published decision will remain on the PTUK register website for a period of five years.

Should there be no sanction issued then no information will be published on the PTUK register website.

Please see PTUK’s Sanctions Guidance for further information.
