“The Post Qualifying Certificate in Play and Creative Arts Counselling with Children and Young People (CCYP) is an advanced professional training programme designed for qualified Play and Creative Arts Therapists who wish to develop specialist skills for working with older children, adolescents, and young people. This highly practical and experiential programme integrates counselling skills, developmental theory, creative arts approaches, and evidence-informed practice to support work with the increasingly complex emotional, social, and psychological needs of young people. Through experiential learning, reflective practice, skills development, case discussion, and clinical application, participants will deepen their understanding of adolescent development and strengthen their confidence in working with issues including anxiety, self-esteem, identity, relationships, trauma, emotional regulation, and school-related challenges. The programme explores key areas including adolescent development, attachment and relationships, trauma-informed practice, counselling skills, identity formation, emotional regulation, neurobiology, ethical and professional issues, and the integration of creative arts approaches with therapeutic work. Participants will develop a wider range of interventions and a flexible therapeutic approach suitable for supporting young people with diverse and complex presentations. Successful graduates will gain a nationally and internationally recognised post-qualifying award and, where eligible, may obtain an additional title on the Professional Standards Authority Accredited Register of Play and Creative Arts Therapists as a Certified Play and Creative Arts Counsellor of Children and Young People, recognising advanced competencies in therapeutic work with children and adolescents.
