Fiona McIlhagga

Hello, I am Fiona and I am an accredited, Registered Play Therapist with a Post Graduate Diploma in Play Therapy and training in family centred therapies. I am self-employed and I work with children aged 4 years upwards. My business name is Beacon Therapies for Children. www.beacontherapiesforchildren.co.uk I take referrals from schools, children’s social care, kinship and adoption teams, family support workers and charities. As a therapist, I have worked with children from 3 years old to teenagers and their families, with a wide range of difficulties. I have broad experience of working with fostered, adopted and SGO children and their families and children who have experienced traumatic experiences. Prior to becoming a Play Therapist I worked as a primary school teacher and with an independent adoption agency with adopted families. I have a particular interest in adoption and fostering, trauma, polyvagal and somatic work, and in working with families to help strengthen their relationships. I am also a clinical supervisor, supporting adults who work with children in different roles (family support workers, school staff, childcare staff and therapists) to do so with wisdom, sensitivity and positive ethical principles in order to keep children safe and thriving. I am based in the Morpeth to Alnwick area of Northumberland.
