Description
Helping children understand and regulate their emotions is a central part of therapeutic work, yet emotional experiences can often feel confusing, overwhelming, or difficult for children to articulate. The much-loved characters from Inside Out and Inside Out 2 offer a creative and accessible way to help children make sense of their inner emotional world, providing a shared language through which feelings can be explored, understood, and managed.
This Continuing Professional Development (CPD) webinar explores how play therapists can utilise the emotional characters from the Inside Out films to support emotional literacy, self-awareness, and emotional regulation. Participants will examine how the characters can be used as therapeutic tools to help children recognise, name, and understand a wide range of emotions while normalising the complexity of emotional experiences. The session will draw upon contemporary emotional regulation theories alongside practical play therapy approaches to support meaningful emotional learning.
The training will also explore sensory-based and creative interventions that can help children develop regulation skills and build emotional resilience. Participants will consider how emotional regulation strategies can be embedded within therapeutic work and extended beyond the playroom through collaboration with parents and carers. Through discussion, practical examples, and shared ideas, practitioners will leave with a range of innovative and engaging approaches that can be adapted for children of different ages and developmental stages.
